Nail Care & Growing Long Nails
Published On: 08th Jun 2018 07:22 am

In this article I want to share some tips and secrets to growing your nails and maintaining them. These tips are just as good if you have short nails and just want to keep them healthy. I’m not an expert or a qualified nail tech but I’ve done extensive research myself on growing healthy, long nails and my natural nails are always super long!

It’s important to make sure your nails and the skin around them are thoroughly dirt-free. Then remove all traces of your last color with an acetone-free remover. Applying soap to a toothbrush, then gently scrubbing your nails and skin. This will remove dirt and exfoliate any dead skin without the need for harsh, drying chemicals or expensive scrubs.

1. Avoid keeping your nails in water

Soaking your nails in water or spending too much time in the shower or bath will soften your nails and when this happens, your nails are vulnerable and susceptible to breakage!

2. Don’t use your nails to perform certain tasks

This is pretty simple. Sometimes you feel fearless and use your nails to open soda cans and doors and packages and then end up with a broken nail. Find other things to do and open things with instead of your nails.

3. Use a nail oil to nourish your nails and cuticles

This is important. Using a nail oil is going to nourish your nails and cuticles, stimulate growth and prevent hangnails. Oils also make your nails more flexible which is a good thing. If you accidentally bend your nail, it wont break if your nails are flexible.

4. Be careful of nail hardeners

This works hand in hand with nail oils. Contrary to popular belief, hard nails aren’t always a good thing. Again, if your nails are hard and you accidentally bend it, it is going to break. You can test this idea of nail flexibility with a ruler. Bend a hard ruler and a flexi ruler and see what happens.

5. Keep your nails painted all the time

Keeping your nails painted all the time is going to add protection to your nails and prevent tears and breaks. Even if you go to school or work and aren’t allowed colored nails, use nudes or clear nail polish.

6. Avoid bumping your nails on things

7. Avoid taking medications and substances to grow your nails

These things don’t work. They just want you to spend your money.

8. Eat a healthy, balanced diet

Your body works inside out. If you eat healthy and stay hydrated, your nails will be healthy too.

9. Use a nail file instead of nail clippers to trim your nails

If you want to shorten your nails slightly or trim them, you should use a nail file instead of clippers. Clippers are the enemy. These things can make your nails snap when you try to clip it.

Thanks so much for reading! I hope this article will help you so that we can all grow and maintain long, healthy, fabulous nails!
