Born in Benoni, in the then Transvaal Province of South Africa, Theron’s dream was to become a dancer. At the age of 16, after winning a modelling contract, she moved to Milan. But after a knee injury ended her dreams of decoding a dancer, she decided to step into acting and bought a one way ticket to LA. After struggling in small supporting roles, Theron got her break in 2003 with ’Monster’. She not only received critical acclaim for her role but also won an Academy Award for Best Actress, making her the first South African to win an Oscar for Best Actress. Since then Theron has starred in stellar movies like ’The Italian Job’, ’The Cider House Rules’, ’North Country’, ’Hancock’ and ’Young Adult’.
