He has done his schooling from Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, Kanpur.He is an English Literature graduate from Kirori Mal College, Delhi. In 1992, he came to Mumbai. His first assignment in Bollywood was to assist Kundan Shah on Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. He also loves the works of Quentin Tarantino, Woody Allen and Patrice Leconte.
