The Dow Jones tumbled 223 points, the S&P 500 tanked 31 and the NASDAQ shed 62. The small cap Russell 2000 index was the best performer as it only fell 4 points while Canada’s main index lost 233. The VIX skyrocketed, moving higher by 16%, while the yield on the 10 year was basically flat to finish at 2.28%. Crude prices were down again as WTI fell 1 percent and Brent lost almost 2 ½% while the gold price moved higher by just over 1 percent. European markets were broadly stronger with the FTSE putting on 26 points and the DAX adding 24. Asian markets were mixed in overnight trade as the Nikkei fell 178 points, the ASX 200 lost 32 and the Hang Seng gained 55.
