How to Get Long Luscious Lashes All Day With Mascara
Published On: 27th Aug 2013 12:09 pm

Thin, short, separated eye lashes are the bane of many women, and one of the most troublesome problems to solve when applying make up. However, it is possible to achieve long, luscious lashes that will last all day long, no matter what your day may bring, with the right mascara.

How to Choose the Right Mascara Type

There are many different types of mascara available on the market, and the selection at the store can sometimes be quite overwhelming. There are some mascara’s that flaunt their abilities to provide longer, fuller, curly lashes, all day protection, water proof protection and much more. While the type of mascara you use has to do with how your lashes appear, it is more about the proper application that will help you achieve those eye-catching, luscious, long lashes that you desire.

However, certain mascara will last longer on your lashes than others. If you have a tendency to rub your eyes, are located in a humid area of the country, get caught in rain, or work in a humid environment, then it is best to choose a water proof mascara to use on your lashes. Water proof mascara provides all day coverage and will last until you remove it with a touch of eye make up remover. Waterproof mascara does not run or smudge, and, for many women, is the best choice for mascara.

If you suffer from thinner, sparse lashes, or lashes which are naturally blonde in color, then you may want to choose thickening mascara. Mascara that is generally thicker in consistency will enable you to have thicker, more noticeable lashes. This thicker consistency will also adhere better to your lashes, allowing an all day wear without you having to constantly reapply.

It is important to realize that mascara itself can not curl your lashes for you. If you desire curlier lashes, it is best to invest in an eye lash curler and use it on your lashes before applying your mascara. Many times, curling mascara will not give you the results you are looking for without accompanying it with curling mascara.

How to Apply Mascara Properly
Applying mascara properly is the key to having long, luscious lashes that will last all day long. To start with, you should make sure that your mascara is fresh and not old. Your mascara should not have any clumps or lumps in it, and the brush should be free of debris, and not be frayed or look worn out. If your mascara is too old, there is usually nothing you can do that will provide you with the results you want to achieve. Mascara, as a general rule, should be replaced every two to three months.

Now that you have inspected your mascara and applicator brush, you want to first dip the mascara brush into the tube and pump it a few times inside the tube. This will get enough of the mascara onto the applicator brush for you to apply it to your eye lashes. Pull it out of the tube gently and swipe the end of the brush off. This will remove the tiny dollop of mascara that is usually at the tip, which you do not want to use. You then want to take the applicator brush to your eye starting on the inside of the lashes closest to the nose. Simply open your eyes as wide as possible and place the applicator brush as far back on the upper eye lash as possible. Squint your eyes closed a little and pull the brush slowly and gently through your lashes all the way to the end. This will pull the mascara out from your eye lashes and create a little extension giving you that long last effect.

One swipe usually will not coat your entire eye lash area. In this case you want to move the applicator brush over and finish the rest of the top eye lash.

Repeat this procedure from the beginning for your second eye to ensure that you have an even amount on both of your peepers. Once both sets of upper eye lashes are done, allow them to dry for a couple of minutes before applying mascara to the bottom lashes.

Once the top lashes are dry, dip the applicator into the mascara tube and swipe off the end of the applicator gently. It is the end of the applicator brush that you want to use when applying the mascara to your lower lashes. For these, you really do not want a gob of mascara hanging on the end and clumping on your lashes. Use the edge of the lower part of the mascara applicator and gently rub mascara into your lower lashes, pulling gently outward to get the long, luscious lashes look you are aiming for.
