Born in Los Angeles, California, Chris Pine comes from a show business family. He is the grandson of actress Anne Gwynne and Max M. Gilford, who was President of the Hollywood Bar Association. His parents are actors Robert Pine and Gwynne Gilford. His sister, Katherine Pine, also acts. Pine attended Oakwood School in the San Fernando Valley, and went on to study English at the University of California, Berkeley where he received a bachelor’s degree. During this time, he spent one year studying at the University of Leeds in England. Pine also studied acting at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. After embarking on an acting career, Pine won guest roles in many television series, and made his feature film debut opposite Anne Hathaway in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004). Other roles in film and television followed, but he became an international star when he was cast as James T. Kirk in the hugely successful franchise reboot, Star Trek (2009).
