10 Inexpensive Romantic Ideas

Given the state of the economy, it is not possible to indulge a partner with lavish gestures of romance every other day. And yet you still want to do something special for your loved one so that they know how much you love them. Here are ten different things you can do with or for your partner which drips with romance but will not break your bank.

Write a letter
A hand-written love letter remains one of the most romantic gestures, especially in this age of emails and text messages. There is something about the putting of pen to paper and writing out the words in your own hand that makes a letter intensely personal and highly sensual. And if you are the creative kind, you can give wings to an imagination and even compose a love poem for your beloved. In the end don’t forget to spritz some perfume on the paper or to sign off with a lipstick kiss in order to make your gesture extra special.

A picnic in the park
If you are lucky enough to have a spell of nice weather, what better way to romance your sweetheart than in the outdoors. So put together a picnic basket with a few sandwiches, a carton of juice, muffins or any other dessert that is lying in your kitchen. Then find a sunny spot in the neighborhood park or along a water-body and lay down the picnic stuff. Use the time spent together to talk to each other, find out about your partner’s dreams and aspirations and the at the end of the day you will feel connected to him/her in a way that would have been impossible if you have settled for an evening at the nightclub.

Go walking or biking
Yet another great way to take advantage of pleasant weather is to go walking or biking, particularly if both you and your partner love physical activities. Take your bikes and set out with your sweetheart for a long meandering ride through the hills or the countryside. On the other hand if you both share an interest in history and culture, walking tour of you city or town can be a wonderful way to spend time together. You could contact your local authorities for a walking tour map of your town and then set about to (re)discover the sights, architectural highlights and the museums along the way and maybe get to know each other even better while you do so.

Movie night
However if you are beat by the end of the day/week and are looking for a simple way to get cozy with your partner, a movie night could be the best choice. Invite your partner over for a movie at your place and make a date out of it. To make it even more interesting, set a theme, like your favorite romantic movie or the best movie adaptation of a literary classic and ask him/her to bring a DVD according to the theme. This will not only help you save money on exorbitant movie theater tickets, but will provide far more intimacy. So snuggle up before the screen and if you find yourselves enjoying all of this, you may even prolong the date to another movie or follow it up with some romantic action of your own.

A sensual evening
On the other hand if you want to make things steamier, how about offering a sensual massage to your partner. For this you don’t need to buy a fancy massage kit; instead you can use whatever aromatic lotion or oil you have at home. In order to create a romantic ambience, simply light a few candles around the scene and have some soft music playing in the background. If you and your partner are partial to frolicking in water, you can use the same idea to run a warm bath with some nice-smelling bath salts. The whole idea is to have an intimate time while indulging each other’s sensual side as well.

A bunch of love coupons
If you want an everyday idea that is romantic as well, how about making a bunch of love coupons for your sweetheart. These could range from a hundred kisses or you preparing your partner’s favorite dessert to even helping out with a chore that is normally your partner’s job. Don’t forget to make a great show while presenting them to your loved one and remind him/her that they come with an expiry date and so they should not take forever to redeem the coupons. Your partner will not only be thrilled at receiving them but deeply touched to find that you have thought of all his/her favorite things.

Go tobogganing
This is a perfect romantic idea for those winter days when you are snowed in and yet don’t want to be shut indoors. Simply call up your partner and ask her/him to come over. In the meantime, ask the neighborhood kids where they go tobogganing once your partner arrives, head for the “slopes”. It will not only be great fun to go back to the games of childhood but can even be hugely romantic with both you and your partner frolicking in the snow together. Follow it up by stopping at a café for a hot cup of joe or some other warm beverage and you are sure to have the perfect ending to a most amazing afternoon.

Get naughty
For a sizzling hot time on the tightest of budgets, how about arranging for a strip show for your partner with you as the star performer, of course. Rehearse the steps a couple of times before the performance and on the actual night, have your partner sit back and enjoy the show.

Pick some fruit
Find out about orchards and fruit gardens around your town where you can go and pick fruit with your partner. It could be a strawberry patch, an apple orchard or grape vineyard. These are generally free to visit with the only cost being that of the fruit you bring back. Once you are done in the orchard, you can then seductively feed each other the fruit you picked.

Cook a meal
For foodies, few experiences are as sensual as rustling up a nice home-cooked meal together. To keep costs down and yourselves stress-free, avoid cooking too many dishes. Rather make any single item of the menu the highlight of the dinner, like a casserole if your partner is the meat and potatoes kind of guy or perhaps the rich chocolate truffle pastry if your girlfriend has a sweet tooth. If you can afford it, go for a nice wine too. However ensure that the setting is right; with soft music playing in the background, muted lighting from candles and flowers on the dining table, you are sure to have the most romantic of times.
